Paperthin Heart

I feel the rain slide down my window like a shiver down my spine.
The only light is the kiss of mother Moon.
I watch the teardrops dance around eachother and wonder why. . .
Why am I the only one left behind
To wrap only in the blanket's warmth?
My room is bare where they should be occupied.
Why is my dog curled around me
And not the arms of a man?
Almost, any man will do, please
As long, there is someone lying beside me
Any man. Almost.
As long as the delusion of happiness is right here.
I colour my walls with paperthin hearts.
Hearts that will love me and only me
And trace love notes on my window pane
So they will whisper promises into my ear
'We will love you in the night.'
I sleep to the lullaby of crinkling paper
Hugging a paper heart given to me long ago.
